The United Pagan Church of Australia

The United Pagan Church of Australia (UPCoA) is a non-profit religious body formed with the aim of becoming an umbrella body representing Pagan religious groups, providing small localised independent groups with a larger national based voice on matters concerning recognition and rights of the various Pagan religions.

One of the goals of the UPCoA is to gain recognition under the Marriage Act, thereby allowing member groups to have access to the ability to register religious marriage celebrants. Other goals include gaining endorsement to offer Special Religious Education in government schools, gaining recognition and authorisation to offer religious services to hospital patients, prison inmates, etc, and endorsing Pagan ‘clergy’ that have satisified specific eligibility and experience criteria allowing them to be promoted as equal to any other ordained religious leader.

The AusPagan Directory

In an effort to help Australian Pagans find groups or Pagan friendly marriage celebrants the UPCoA formed its “Online Groups Listing” and “Online Celebrants Listing”. These early lists provided basic information for groups and celebrants, and helped spark other directories.

Recognising that this project has the potential to expand, the UPCoA gave the listings a makeover in early June 2009, making the AusPagan Directory a sub-site in its own right. “Add Me” scripts were upgraded to provide those adding their information the ability to edit their own listings rather than relying on UPCoA officials, and several other features were upgraded and improved.

The AusPagan Directory is a FREE service to the Pagan community. There is NO COST to groups or celebrants to be listed on the Directory, nor is there any charge for individuals to use or search the directory. Groups and celebrants do NOT need to join UPCoA to be listed, and UPCoA will NOT post out any membership or promotional material unless the group/celebrant specifically requests this information.
